Historical Walking Tour of Dublin
In just 2 hours, this Ireland Tourist Board approved, award-winning and entertaining 'seminar on the street' explores the main features of Irish history. Conducted by history graduates of Trinity College, topics covered include; Dublin's development, the influence of the American and French Revolutions, the Potato Famine 1845-49, the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence and the subsequent partition of Ireland into North and South. The tour concludes with discussion of the Northern Ireland peace process and the state of modern Ireland.
The following Dublin landmarks are visited and discussed along the course of the tour:
Trinity College, Old Parliament House, Temple Bar, City Hall, Dublin Castle, the original Viking settlement at Wood Quay, Christ Church Cathedral & Four Courts.
Literary Pub Crawl
No city is as rich in pubs and poetry as Dublin, and Dublin’s literary pub crawl is a genius amalgam of both - a 2½ hour walking tour with Wilde, Joyce, Behan and Beckett. This is an award-winning show that crawls from pub to pub with professional actors performing the works of Dublin's most famous writers - Joyce, Beckett, Oscar Wilde, Brendan Behan and many more.
In the style of Leoopold Bloom, the literary pub crawl meanders through the streets of Dublin, taking in the sights, the smells, the sounds and the scenes. A team of rambling players and minstrels completes the ensemble, giving renditions of verse, prose, drama and song from the literary hall of fame. You'll find the wit and humor is as potent as the drink itself.
Food & Storytelling at The Brazen Head
Discover how Irish people lived in times past while enjoying a traditional candlelit dinner in Dublin's oldest pub, The Brazen Head (est. 1198). Be taken back in time to the fascinating world of Ireland long ago when the culture was one of the mind, spirit and imagination and where the unseen world was never far away.
Evening Highlights
- Hear how Irish people lived off the land, and how the humble potato influenced the emigration of Irish people all over the world
- Explore their beliefs and superstitions surrounding the otherworld of the fairies. It was so much more than just leprechauns!
- Listen to the magical stories they told as they gathered around the fire at night, escaping into the world of the imagination
The Setting
The evening takes place in a quiet room above Dublin’s oldest pub, the Brazen Head. As you relax between each course of a candlelit traditional Irish meal, you will be captivated by an insightful talk about Irish life in another time. A time ruled by matters of the community, spirit, and the mystical unseen world.
You may wish to conclude your evening by heading downstairs to one of Dublin’s best live-traditional music venues.
